What is anxiety and how does it affect us? Well
most people are very afraid of anxiety some of the signs
of people suffering from anxiety are: they can't think
straight, they feel as if they are losing their
mind, afraid of other people's perception of them
are very afraid other people will judge them and condemn
them.
They worry that they'll lose control of their
own lives, that other people will deem them has not being
functional and will take away their autonomy. This can
lead to a great sense of isolation, many people who
suffer from anxiety, don't go out, and don’t speak to
anybody.
If you ignore the signs, you can become really
incapacitated, because you don't understand yourself. It
creates an internal struggle you fight to get yourself to
move forward. You see your own brain as having
somehow sabotaged you. The feelings and symptoms of
anxiety can be so pervasive.
So why is anxiety such a physical feeling
there's a good reason for that from the evolutionary
point of view, it acts as an early warning system to
danger it actually keeps us alive. Its part of our fight
or flight mechanism however in the world we live in today
there are very few real threats, dangerous
environmental threats in our everyday lives. Our
instinctive survival response is still in working order
but reacting to perceived threats rather than the old
fight or flight response we needed in the days we used
have to run from the odd saber toothed tiger back into
our caves.
The good news is there is a natural
anxiety cure which does not require any
medication, just you and the way you communicate with
yourself. Gill Batty from St Andrews, Scotland is
doing some great work in this field I had a very
interesting chat with Gill who revealed that the general
view of anxiety is: it’s treated as a medical issue that
it is some form of mental illness.
Often the first line of approach is sedatives of
some variety, which treat at the symptom level so this
does give a sense of instant relief to the clients.
But when the sedative wears off, the anxiety is often
still there and people are finding that this is not good
enough for them years and years on, they still have what
they call a problem and nothing has helped
them.
So it's Gill's intention to give people a
sense of understanding themselves, realising that they
don't have to be afraid of themselves that they don't
have to rely on external sources to make them feel
better. Gill teaches people how to better understand
themselves, which leads to a massive increase in their
own ability to live their lives. When you talk of
positive intention, what you are really looking for is
what has created this state of anxiety and its
purpose.
So what is anxiety telling us and could
this natural anxiety cure come from within you? Anxiety
is really a message from your unconscious mind, your
instinctive response to yourself and the world around
you. So if you're looking for a positive intention
you actually begin by looking inside yourself and find
the intention behind the behavior. The higher
purpose behind what you are experiencing always leads to
the answer and when the answer is found the learning
takes place. The client feels relief, and that's what
we're really looking for is to be able to function and
not governed by unpleasant and unwanted
symptoms.
